About the Society For the Promotion of
Fannish Interests, Inc.



Purpose

The primary objective and purpose of this corporatoin shall be:

  1. To promote an increased cultural awareness of science fiction, alternate history, fantasy, and related expresive genres, which together are collectively termed "speculative fiction."

  2. To conduct and encourage education and discourse regarding speculative fiction in its various form: books, stories, poetry, song, theater, interactive drama, cinema, television, artwork, craft and other media.

  3. To promote general literacy through a heightened public interest in speculative fiction.
The purpose shall be acieved by:
  1. Sponsorship of meeting, conferences, and other public events within the United States of America to increase interest, awareness and discourse regarding speculative fiction.

  2. Promotion of the subset of the arts known as speculative fiction, and facilitation of such promotion by other persons and groups.

  3. Publication of books, journals, newletters, web sites, and other media.

  4. Sponsorship of creative writing and arts contests.

  5. Engaging in other activities of a charitable, educational, or literary nature, as provided by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of the United States of America.

SPFII is Membership based

SPFII will have only one class of members. All members shall have the same rights, privileges, restrictions and conditions.

Qualification of Members

An individual shall qualify for membership if he or she is currently a member of the Board of Directors.

An individual shall also qualify for membership if he or she has served on the Board of Directors at least one year out of the past three.

And individual shall also qualify for membership if the endire Board of Directors votes unaimously to offer membership to the individual in question. That Individual mush be listed on an active staff list of a Standing Committe within 6 months of qualifying for membership in the corporation.

An individual shall also qualify for membership if he or she is listed on the final staff list of at least two Standing Committees in the past three years, having provided substantial service to these committees. The Chair of each Standing Committe shall transmit a final staff list to the Secretary as described in Article 5, Section 3.
